Anonymous asked: Hello! :) It’s been so helpful being able to see your journey. What exercises did you find most helpful whilst learning to draw and what would you avoid doing if you were to start over again? I’m just getting back into taking art seriously and am once again overwhelmed by everything. Thank you :)

algenpfleger:

to me the most helpful exercises are for drawing:

1. gesture drawing over and over until you find the essence of the figure, a skeleton/abstract gesture that carries the weight and flow

2. constructing things in perspective, drawing through the entire form

3. drawing things in motion/sequence, whether faces or figures

4. simplifying things to their most basic shapes, trying to again catch the essence and flow

for painting:

1. flat brush, no opacity/pressure, handpicking each color until you see it exactly

2. small color pieces from imagination

3. tight studies focusing on rendering, edges and materials

4. painting from life

“Not all toxic people are cruel and uncaring. Some of them love us dearly. Many of them have good intentions. Most are toxic to our being simply because their needs and way of existing in the world force us to compromise ourselves and our happiness. They aren’t inherently bad people, but they aren’t the right people for us. And as hard as it is, we have to let them go. Life is hard enough without being around people who bring you down, and as much as you care, you can’t destroy yourself for the sake of someone else. You have to make your wellbeing a priority. Whether that means breaking up with someone you care about, loving a family member from a distance, letting go of a friend, or removing yourself from a situation that feels painful — you have every right to leave and create a safer space for yourself.”

Guy stages a fake occult secret society meeting, then orders pizza

San Diego photographer Tim King recently hosted a secret society-themed party for eight of his friends, complete with robes, masks, and a soundtrack provided by the “chanting monks” Pandora station. Then he ordered a pizza delivery, turned on a video camera, and waited.

See this is a prank. It’s fun, it’s funny, it doesn’t hurt anyone, and it gives the guy getting pranked a good story to tell with no skin off his back.

I almost forgot that pranks could be funny.
